HS Admissions & TEAS

One more point of clarification on TEAS:

Regardless of the actual score, points are awarded based on the preparedness level (noted on the TEAS score report).  In other words, if one student receives an exemplary level with higher scores and another student earns lower scores, but still achieves the exemplary level – both students will be awarded the same 4 points.

These scores are classified by ATI as “Exemplary.”
·          TEAS Composite score: 90.7% – 100%
·          Reading: 90.7% – 100%
·          Math: 90.7% – 100%
·          Science: 90.7% – 100%
·          English: 90.7% – 100%

These scores are usually above the national mean and are classified by ATI as “Advanced.”
·          TEAS Composite score: 78% – 90%
·          Reading: 78% – 90%
·          Math: 78% – 90%
·          Science: 78% – 90%
·          English: 78% – 90%

These scores will usually put you right around the national average and are classified by ATI as “Proficient.”
·          TEAS Composite score: 58.7% – 77.3%
·          Reading: 58.7% – 77.3%
·          Math: 58.7% – 77.3%
·          Science: 58.7% – 77.3%
·          English: 58.7% – 77.3%

UM Transfer Planning Four-Year Plans

From Anne Schleicher:

This is a first group of MC Transfer Planning Pages for specific majors at UM.  Each set of pages includes a UM Four-Year Plan with MC course equivalencies; the second page is a General Studies Degree Worksheet with courses filled in.

Files found at:  SharePoint\Counseling Department - Documents\Advising Docs\Transfer

More UM-Specific Transfer Planning Pages are in development – not for all majors but for those that are not always fully covered by a corresponding MC AA degree.  They will be located on one central spot (still to be determined), but for now, the files are attached for your use.

1)      UM Studio Art including these Concentrations:  Painting & Drawing, Printmaking, Sculpture, Digital Media, and Graphic Design.   This plan is based on completion of a General Studies HACL AA degree for students who wish to complete the World Language/Global Engagement Requirement prior to transfer.  It also illustrates why the Gen Studies HACL degree prepares students to major in Studio Art / Graphic Design and explains that only two MC GDES courses are accepted by UM (GDES 116 and GDES 121).  It also outlines Portfolio Requirements for the Graphic Design Concentration and lists courses that must be completed or be in progress at the time of transfer application to UM.
2)      UM Animal Science for students interested in Pre-Vet and other Pre-Professional Schools.  Explains that students will need to take 3 four-credit ANSC Lab courses after transfer to keep up with major requirements, provides links for students to read about admission to veterinary schools.  Recommends completing MC’s General Education Program if transferring prior to completion of the AA degree.  This is one of the few majors where students cannot take most pre-req’s at MC; also, explains that the needed 100/200-level ANSC’s are not taught in Summer or Winter so unfortunately they cannot be taken through MTAP.
3)      UM Kinesiology – based on completion of General Studies STEM for students interested in Pre-Physical Therapy.  Explains the need to take Physics 203/204 sequence at MC to meet Gen Studies STEM 200-level requirements.  For students who are not interested in Pre-Physical Therapy or other professional programs (those desiring a pure Exercise Science Bachelor’s only), the page advises considering General Studies INTG.

4)      UM Psychology BA and BS Major Requirements.  Describes the difference in courses needed for each (BA or BS) and offers Pre-Med Advising Notes.  Explains that UM prefers one course from each of three Theme areas rather than a broad selection of PSYC’s at the lower level.  For students specifically interested in Psychology/Pre-medicine, explains that the UM Pre-Med Letter of Recommendation can only be obtained if 6 lab sciences (24 credits) are completed after transfer @ UM – basically a caution that students seeking pre-med may need to wait to take all lab sciences beyond BIOL 150 until after transfer.
Please point out the note on the bottom of each set of pages stating that these pages are for UM majors only!

This page will provide unique information for transfer advising - those items every student, advisor and counselor needs to know about transferring to MC's partner institutions.
