MC Early Childhood Education Programs: CDA, 1 Year, AAS, and AAT

Montgomery College Counselors,

I hope that everyone is doing well!  My name is Sonia Pruneda-Hernandez and I am the Collegewide Chair for Early Childhood Education Programs.  To better assist you with direct contact information for the Montgomery College Early Childhood Programs, I am sending out the attached flyer with contact information.  The MC Early Childhood Programs supports all early childhood educators with advising for the CDA, 1 Year Certificate, AAS, and AAT.  We also support early childhood education students with pathways from noncredit to credit.

I am also reaching out with important scholarship information:  If you are advising or know of any students that work in a licensed *early childhood education program, please invite them to attend the first session of MC Early Childhood Education Summer Series: Voices of Early Childhood Practitioners tonight at 7:00 pm.  The second hour of the summer series session will be a review of the MC ECE Pathway Scholarship criteria and application process.  The ECE Pathway Scholarship covers full tuition for early childhood educators working in Montgomery County that meet the criteria and follow the application process.  The scholarship will cover a pathway from ESL, AELP, Basic Math, or CDA to credit side 1 Year Cert, AAS, or AAT.

The scholarship is available to students on credit and noncredit side beginning fall 2020.

*Early childhood education programs = child care centers, family child care, before/after school-age programs, and some early childhood programs based in MCPS.   Early childhood education does not include Nanny or Au Pair.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me.

Be well and stay safe,
Professor Sonia Pruneda-Hernandez, M.S. Ed.

Salisbury Information

The admissions director stated that there are two ways for students to apply to SU: 1) commonapp 2) collegenet and he stated that the collegenet takes less time to complete due to common adding additional questions based on what is filled.

Salisbury has many dual degrees in Engineering in partnership with University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

Salisbury University has an additional grant to provide full-rides to students who major in STEM & Secondary Education.

There is an accelerated program in partnership with UMES for a doctorate in pharmacy. It is 3 years at SU and 3 years at UMES. They recommended our students take many courses in Math & Science. Lastly, there is a Good neighbor Scholarship up to 6k. It is for DC, New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania.

**In the past I have emailed admissions to have application fees waived and they are very generous.
