Underage student with HS diploma

Please share this email string with your respective departments just in case anyone needs clarity on the underaged high school graduates. Students who have graduated from an accredited HS are eligible for admission regardless of  their age.  Let me know if you have any questions.

To clarify, If the student does not have a high school diploma or GED and the student is currently under 16, the admissions office will place a UA (underage) hold on the student, and identify their application status as “Incomplete items outstanding” in Banner.  Once the student either meets the dual enrollment criteria OR has provided GED or HS diploma documentation then their status is changed to “decision made”.  This is the “block” that you referenced, which is actually that their application does not get pushed as complete until their status is determined.  Similarly, the UA hold stays on until the student turns 16 or produces a diploma or GED.

I looked into this particular student, as I didn’t have her M number at the time we talked, and she had already graduated HS prior to applying to the college, so her status was “decision made” from the start and there was never an underage hold.  Note too that underage students who have a high school diploma or GED are not referred to the Deans of Student Services for approval prior to admission, and are free to take classes at MC without additional approvals.  They do not get the UA hold and should be managed as any other regular student.

Thanks,

Akima

High School Transcripts

Admissions now requires all new students to submit an official copy of their High School Transcripts. If they are not able to do this then they must petition the Campus Registrar, Marjorie Davis. Students who graduated from high school outside the US must have their transcript evaluated by an outside agency. The complete Admissions FAQ regarding high school transcripts is posted on the H drive.
