UMD Pre-Transfer Advising: Virtual Information Session

Good Afternoon,
My name is Leslie Lindeman and I am the new University of Maryland (College Park) Pre-Transfer Advisor for Montgomery College, filling the role previously held by Tyler McClenithan.  I understand that you are incredibly busy, particularly during this time of transition.  However, I wanted to let you know that I am still an active resource for you and your students.
  • At 11am on Friday, April 3rd prospective transfer students to UMD can attend a virtual information session.  Attendees will learn general information about the UMD transfer process, transfer course database, and limited enrollment programs.  Students can email pretransferadvising@umd.edu to receive a link to the WebEx session.
  • I'm happy to connect with students via email.  Please feel free to share my contact information and the attached document of UMD transfer resources: LLINDEMA@umd.edu.
I'm looking forward to learning more about Montgomery College and seeing how I can be most helpful!

Thank you,
Leslie Lindeman

Update on Process to Advocate for Foundation Student Support

I received notice from Joyce Matthews that she does not need a dean to endorse an employee’s request when advocating for student support. This is overwhelming her staff. Please alert your teams that they can copy me (or their dean) on their emails to Joyce Matthews and Donna Pina. The dean will only interject if they do not support the request.

Take care,

Tonya R. Mason, Ph.D.

Adobe Creative Cloud

Adobe is presenting a new licensing model that includes hundreds of new features and advancements focusing on faster, powerful, and more reliable tools. Employees will use what Adobe calls a "named user" license and students will use a "shared device" license. Both licenses will require employees and students to login to a College computer and when any Adobe software is launched, users will be required to login to that software.

Adobe Creative Cloud can be accessed in three easy steps:
Step 1: After logging in to a College computer, click on the Adobe Creative Cloud icon on the desktop.

Step 2: On the sign-on screen for Adobe Creative Cloud, enter your email address in the following format:

Step 3: Enter your MyMC password.

Please note: If you are prompted with an additional login screen, enter your MyMC ID and MyMC password.

ENGL 101 vs ENGL 101/011

Some of the key facts about the newly named ENGL 101/011 are as follows:

  • ENGL 101/011 has the same curriculum as ENGL 101A.
  • Students must register for the two linked CRNS – one for ENGL 101 and the other for the linked ENGL 011 -- identified as co-requisites on the schedule.
  • Students must register for both CRNs at the same time.
  • The same instructor teaches both CRNs.
  • Students earn the same grade for both ENGL 101 and ENGL 011.

Why did we make this change?

Previously considered the “A” portion of ENGL 101A,   ENGL 011 is the “support module” connected to ENGL 101 in order for financial aid to cover all 5 hours of the course. Previously, financial aid often only covered 3 hours of the ENGL 101A course, and students had to pay for the other 2 hours.

Thanks for your help in sharing this information!  Please feel free to reach out if you or your counselors have questions.

Warmly,
Sharon
