Resources for Students and Faculty during Extended Winter - 2024/25

 Dear Faculty:

Hope all is well.  You are receiving this email because you are assigned to teach an online or remote course during the extended winter session.  Please see the following for details on how to best support your students during this session.

If faculty or students need help with Blackboard, the Blackboard Help Desk is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at:

If students need tutoring or workshops, the Learning Centers are available during the extended winter session with limited hours.  When the College is closed, students who need online tutoring can access Brainfuse by following these instructions:

  • Log in to MyMC
  • At the top of the page, click on Blackboard
  • Click the Tools link on the left-hand menu
  • Click on the Blackboard Live Tutoring link

If students need coaching during the extended winter session, they can access the virtual drop-in coaching feature of the Achieving the Promise Academy.  Students can book a coaching session by going to the website.

If faculty have an urgent situation that needs immediate attention (e.g., student in crisis) when the College is closed, they can contact Public Safety who will collaborate with the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs.

If students have a registration issue, these inquiries will be addressed when the College re-opens on January 6, 2025.  However, faculty can email Ernest Cartledge, Director of Records and Registration and College Registrar, and copy Dean Marcus Peanort, so that the issue is documented accordingly.

Have a productive and engaging extended winter session!

All the best,

Shinta

Students Transferring to Online Programs

(Update provided by Andrea Milo on June 2, 2013)

There is a MHEC Regulation that requires out of state institutions offering fully online programs to register with the state, here are some valuable reminders and resources:

Please remind any students planning to transfer to a fully online program that they need to check to see where the institution is housed. If it is outside of Maryland please refer them to this list of registered institutions and programs: http://www.mhec.state.md.us/higherEd/acadAff/OOS_Online/OOS_Online_Reg_List.asp

Most institutions that are not registered will deny Maryland residents admission to their programs, however, students might be allowed to start a program if it is under review. If the program is eventually denied registration then the student would be refunded their tuition but it would still costs them valuable time. Please help to make sure our students are being savvy consumers.

If you or a student has a question about an institution you can contact:
