In genera,l students have to request the fee waivers from the particular college or university where
they are applying and follow the directions given by the school.
Sometimes colleges and universities give fee waivers when
students attend an Open House or another event. This often happens at
Open Houses given by the Universities at Shady Grove.
UMGC (previously UMUC), often states that there is no
application fee on their website during certain times of the year.
Students who apply to UMGC while they are still enrolled at MC can ask for the UMGC
Alliance Fee Waiver. Contact UMGC for more information on this.

If the student is coming from a HS, took the SAT/ACT and was
eligible for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program, then the College Board would
have granted fee waivers to those students. If the student qualified for
the fee waivers when they were in HS, they can still use that by specifying so
in their college application. https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/get-in/applying-101/college-application-fee-waivers

Many schools, including the UMCP use the Coalition
Application. If a student is eligible for Pell Grants and notes that in
the Coalition Application, then, they qualify for the fee waiver. http://www.coalitionforcollegeaccess.org/fee-waiver.html

Step 5: Pay the Application Fee. Most
applications are not free, they require you to pay. You may be eligible for an
application fee waiver; ask the admissions representative from an institution
if you qualify. Fees may be waived by attending an event, by showing proof of
membership in Phi Theta Kappa, or because of an articulation agreement MC has
with the school.
