Generation Hope Scholarships for Parenting Students (Moms & Dads)

Generation Hope's application is currently open (through April 1).  Also, we are encouraging your support in spreading the word to any eligible students. Generation Hope provides scholarships of $1,200/year along with one-on-one mentoring, mental health support, case management, free tutoring, and more to young parents (both moms and dads) who are going to college in the DC metro area. We are currently supporting 12 Montgomery College students and would love to serve more.

Generation Hope's team is actively recruiting new students to join their next class of Scholars. The application and more information about eligibility requirements can be found here through April 1.  I have also attached a flyer. The flyer is also available in Spanish.

To assist with completing the application, an application clinic is scheduled to, provide one-on-one support with the application, on March 12th as well as a special event for fathers on March 24th.

If you have any questions about the program or eligibility, you may contact Caroline Griswold Short, Director of Programming:  caroline@generationhope.org, 202-642-5649.

Outreach and Support for Student Parents

 Student Affairs Division -

Generation Hope, a local organization that surrounds motivated teen parents and their children with the mentors, emotional support, and financial resources they need to thrive in college and kindergarten, thereby driving a two-generation solution to poverty, is now accepting applications for the 2021 Scholars Cohort. The application submission deadline is Thursday, April 1, 2021. Over the years, many Montgomery College students have participated in this wonderful program with outstanding results.

In an effort to encourage eligible MC students to apply, a virtual collegewide 30-minute information session with Generation Hope will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2021 from 2:00 - 2:30 p.m. (live session) and a recorded replay will be held on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 from 6:00 - 6:30 p.m. As a Division, we interact with many students who are eligible for services provided by Generation Hope, but they may not be aware of this valuable resource.

If you know of a parenting student who meets the eligibility to apply to the Generation Hope 2021 Scholars Cohort, please submit their names and contact information using this link by Monday, March 8, 2021 .  The data collected will be a great start to help the College begin connecting with students who are in this specific category and will complement efforts of the Ascend Parent Initiative (API) Taskforce, led by Dr. Ja’Bette Luisa Lozupone, director of student affairs and Ms. Beverly Coleman, director of the TRiO educational opportunity center.

For more information about the Generation Hope information session, please contact Benita.Rashaw@montgomerycollege.edu, student affairs operations director, or Kimberly.blochrincan@montgomerycollege.edu, ACES engagement coordinator.
