New SAT

The college ready SAT score was dropped to 500 for old SAT test. The concordance table for comparing scores from the old SAT test to the new SAT test reflected that a 500 on the old test equates to a 530 on the new SAT.

In regards to reading, we only used the old SAT Critical Reading section which needed to be 500. The new SAT has an Evidence-based Reading and Writing with two subsections, Reading and Writing and Language. A 500 on the old SAT reading test equates to a 27 on the new reading test.

The S-codes in SOATEST delineate the old SAT vs. the new SAT. If you see codes S01-S09, that tells you that the student took the old SAT. Codes S11 and above, as well as the new test titles, reflect that the student took the new SAT.

SAT and UMCP

Students that have less than 30 credit hours, must submit an SAT and their high school and college transcripts to be eligible for review by priority. I think the key maybe for students to review the SAT as early as possible, especially if taking the test makes them eligible as a priority applicant.

Important SAT College Ready Scores Reminder and Updates

MONTGOMERY COLLEGE
Office of Academic Affairs

May 26, 2016

MEMORANDUM

From:              Judy E. Ackerman, Convener of CAPDI

Subject:          Important SAT College Ready Scores Reminder and Updates

Reminder:  Last fall the college community was notified that Montgomery College would implement college ready SAT scores of 500 approved by the Maryland Council of Community College Presidents (MCCCP) effective summer session 2016.  These college ready scores for the SAT Critical Reading and Math sections apply to SAT tests taken prior to March 2016.

SAT Update:  As of March 2016, the College Board started to administer the redesigned SAT.  Although we will not see many entering students who have taken the redesigned SAT for summer or fall 2016, the Office of Academic Initiatives is beginning to see dual enrollment students who have only taken the redesigned SAT.  Pending approval of college ready redesigned SAT scores by the MCCCP, Montgomery College is putting students first by establishing interim redesigned SAT college ready scores so that college ready students can be placed without needing to take ACCUPLACER.  These interim college ready scores for the redesigned SAT are effective for summer 2016 and fall 2016 pending action of the MCCCP to designate statewide college ready scores on the redesigned SAT. The following table lists the Interim Montgomery College Redesigned SAT College Ready Scores.

Interim Montgomery College Ready Redesigned SAT Scores
Test or subtest
Interim MC College Ready Score
Redesign SAT Reading subtest
27
Redesign SAT Math test
530

The redesigned SAT has two aggregate scores, one for math and one for evidence based reading and writing.  The range for each of these aggregate scores is from 200 to 800.  The evidence based reading and writing section has two subtest scores that each has a range of 10 to 40.  The math section has three subtest scores that each has a range of 10 to 40.  The two aggregate scores and five subtest scores will be entered in Banner so that it will be possible to determine whether a student took the redesigned SAT.

PARCC Update:  An additional test that is gaining national traction to determine college readiness is the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC).  Since it is possible that students may come to Montgomery College from counties and states that are using the PARCC exams, Montgomery College interim college ready scores are listed below.

SAT scores and Admissions

In case you were not aware of this:

As long as the student prints out a copy of their SAT scores from the college board website in the presence of a counselor, the counselor can sign it and submit to the admissions office. This score will go into Banner same day.

This will save a lot of time putting in specific overrides for classes when students meet SAT cut offs of 550 or higher.

SAT/ACT Scores - Submitting to ARR on behalf of students

Jackson Trana is the person you want to give the scores to. He has a mailbox behind the counter in AR. I figured this might be good information to have if you like to walk the scores over and it happens to be a line in AR.

As a reminder, have the student print out a copy of their SAT or ACT score in front of you. Make sure the score report has their whole name and add their ‘M’ Number. I also sign and stamp it for good measure, so AR knows it’s legit.

ARR will also accept a score report from a student if you sign and stamp.
