2)AELP students eligible for EL104 and exempt or have already completed RD103 and EL110 can be given pre-requisite overrides for CA120 Introduction to Computer Applications-by any counselor or advisor as part of a pilot program they are running--thus overriding the EN101/101A assessment level. An update to the Academic Appeals form has been placed online.
Note the changes on page 3:
Counselors are not required to make recommendations, however, they are required to sign the document to verify that the application is complete. Counselors may add optional comments if they feel their statements will help the student's case.

General Education
Can't get your hands on a catalog, but want to give the student a copy of the distribution courses? Anne Schleicher has compiled a handy worksheet for this purpose.
See: General Education Course List 2010-2011 with Transfer Advising Notes
(Recommended for all students; required for students who are new to Montgomery College in Fall 2010 and thereafter)

Advanced Credit
Attached is a chart of how AP credit scores transfer to MC and to UMCP, UMBC, Towson and UMUC. I:\SHARED\CB215 Doc Masters\Counseling & Advising Resources\APCreditCompChartMC.pdf There are several courses where there are discrepancies in what MC accepts (scores of 3 or higher) and the other schools where they accept only 4 and 5 scores.
It is VERY important when advising students who have AP scores to make sure they are aware if they will get credit for these scores when they transfer. For example if they have a score of 3 on the AP Macro Economics test then MC transfers it in as EC 201 however UMCP, UMBC, and UMUC either do not transfer the course or they give credit for a lower level economics course. So students wanting to go to UMCP Smith School of Business or to UMUC would need to take the EC 201 here even though we are giving them AP credit with a score of 3.
If MC grants AP credit for a course used as a general education requirement according to MHEC four year Maryland schools must use the course to fulfill general education requirements however the credits do not transfer.
