ENGL101A Fall 2015 Pilot Update

Just as a reminder for both the ENGL101A and Math Pilot:

·         Refer students presenting pilot letters to the English and Math department chairs for overrides (counseling should not provide overrides)

·         The English/Math department chairs have to enter specific overrides so this cohort of students can be tracked

·         Pilot placements do not serve as new assessment levels - must follow original developmental placements in SOATEST in Banner for other courses

·         If student does not pass, s/he must start with original placement the following semester

Here is some additional information from Ellen Olmstead, English/Reading chair:

“I am occasionally encouraging students to take reading. I am entering permission for them to take English. Some of them really need a foundation in reading, and the English classes do not provide that. Please share this with your faculty--use their better judgment to put students into the ENGL 101A and READ 095 or 099 when their gut tells them it would be best for the student."
