The college ready score for the SAT will change from 550 to 500
with a corresponding change in ACT score from 24 to 21 for both English and
Math. Please read the attached memo for detailed information. Banner is currently being coded to reflect the change but will
not be complete until Summer 2016. During this time please be sure to provide
overrides/comments in Banner to ensure that students can register for the
appropriate courses.
November 29, 2015 -MEMORANDUM
Earlier this semester you received a communication from me about the changes approved by the Maryland Association of Community Colleges (MACC) presidents regarding college ready SAT and ACT scores. It stated,
The college ready score for the SAT will change from 550 to 500 with a corresponding change in ACT score from 24 to 21. These college ready scores permit student to enroll in introductory college level courses. So, a SAT of 500 or an ACT score of 21 in English will allow a student to enroll in ENGL 101. A SAT score of 500 or an ACT score of 21 will allow a student to enroll in MATH 110, MATH 115 or MATH 117. Students whose programs specify other math courses will normally need to take the ACCUPLACER. Currently, most entering students do not submit their SAT or ACT scores unless one or more of them can be used to document that they are college ready.
Based on a recommendation from CAPDI, the new college ready scores will be fully implemented starting with registration for summer 2016 classes. At that time, Banner will be programmed with the new range of college ready scores.
For spring 2016, there may be a small number of students with SAT or ACT scores that fall within the soon to be implemented college ready range. If a student can provide official documentation of their ACT or SAT scores, English, Reading or Math chairs or their designees may, through the Review of Placement process, place students in the corresponding introductory college level course for the spring 2016 semester. Information regarding this action must be entered in Banner as an override in the SFASRPO screen with a brief comment on the rationale for the override in the comment screen, SPACMNT.
Please share this information with faculty members in your disciplines, especially those who may be your designee for Review of Placement.
