UMCP Pre-Transfer Advising Spring 2021

Good Evening,

I hope that you are doing well and that the first day of classes went smoothly! The spring 2021 semester has also officially begun at the University of Maryland, College Park. I wanted to pass along a few updates I’ve become aware of that may be of interest to you and your students.

-UMCP will offer a change in grading method option for current students in spring 2021, which can be reviewed in full on UMCP’s Keep Learning site: ugst.umd.edu/keeplearning. As a result, for students not currently attending the University of Maryland but who transfer in fall 2021 or later, a grade of C- or higher is acceptable in all Limited Enrollment Program (LEP) gateway requirements if a student completes the course during the spring 2021 semester.

  • LEP gateway requirements that normally require a B- or higher (Engineering: PHYS 161 & MATH141; Government and Politics: GVPT170 or, if have AP, 241; and Psychology: PSYC100 or, if have AP, 221) can be satisfied with a C- or higher only if completed in spring 2021.

-A new major, Immersive Media Design, will debut in Fall 2021: https://imd.umd.edu/

-If any of your students in the Maryland Transfer Advantage Program (MTAP) want to take a summer course thought UMCP at a reduced tuition rate, they should submit this form by February 27th: https://admissions.umd.edu/sites/admissions.umd.edu/files/CIS_2020_0.pdf.

-For students needing to provide proof of English proficiency, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions now accepts the Duolingo English Test, in addition to IELTS and TOEFL: https://admissions.umd.edu/apply/admission-requirements/international-applicant-requirements/english-language-proficiency.

Please feel free to share this information with your colleagues and students, and do let me know if you have any questions.

Take care,

Leslie Lindeman
