ENGLISH COMPOSITION NOTE FOR MC STUDENTS PLANNING TO TRANSFER TO CCBC Community College of Baltimore County FOR AN AAS DEGREE
CCBC Community College of Baltimore County www.ccbcmd.edu/ has many specialized Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees that may be of interest to MC students, including but not limited to:
- Automotive
Technology (Manufacturer-Specific Options) AAS
- Dental Hygiene AAS
- Veterinary
Technology
AAS
- See the List of
All Degrees Offered at CCBC: https://www.ccbcmd.edu/Programs-and-Courses/Degrees-and-Certificates.aspx
NOTE:
For CCBC’s AAS Degrees, students transferring from Montgomery College need to
complete ENGL 102 (or ENGL 103) which will transfer as CCBC’s ENGL 101 for all
AAS Associate of Applied Science degrees. This is confusing
because CCBC has a 2-part ENGL sequence for their Associate of Arts degrees
that includes ENGL 101 & ENGL 102, but for their AAS degrees, CCBC’s ENGL
101 includes additional research writing skills which make this course eligible
to be the only ENGL required for AAS degrees. MC’s ENGL 101 is not
accepted as a direct equivalent for CCBC’s ENGL 101 because our ENGL 101
introduces documentation, but ENGL 102 or 103 is where MC students develop
research skills that meet the Maryland standard for an English Composition
course.
MC
students hoping to meet admissions requirements for CCBC’s Dental Hygiene or
Mortuary Science AAS degrees need to take MC’s ENGL 102 to meet the ENGL 101
requirement for CCBC AAS degrees that have competitive minimum prerequisites.
This
is confusing but it is a “just know this” situation, for students hoping to
transfer to CCBC, completion of ENGL 102 (or ENGL 103) is a must.
