Transferability of Gen Ed Courses

Transferability of Gen Ed Courses - Maryland State Gen Ed courses are guaranteed to transfer to other MD state schools, but they don't always have to be accepted in the category in which they were taken. Here are a few exceptions:

1. MA 115A Mathematical Ideas does NOT transfer as a Gen Ed Math to UMUC. UMUC will apply it in some other category, but students MUST take MA 110 Survey to fulfill the General Math requirement. We have been working on this but at the moment, it's the situation. Most majors at UMUC require both MA 110 and a Statistics - MA 116A is accepted for the Stat. ALSO, MA 115A does not transfer to University of Maryland, Baltimore's School of Nursing. So while many students like the idea of MA 115A, it's transferability is not always a given.

2. AN 105 Physical Anthropology and Archaeology does NOT transfer as a non-lab science to UMBC. UMBC will accept it as a Culture course in Gen Ed, but not as a science This is especially important for students planning to go to USG for UMBC because they cannot pick up another non lab science there so they will have to take it here.

3. Grades of D in Gen Ed courses will transfer from MC to other MD State schools as long as 1) The transfer school itself doesn't have a minimum requirement of a C for their own native students and 2) the course is not a major-specific requirement (for example, PY 102 required for a Psych major must have a minimum C).
