Here is a summary regarding ARTSYS and UM. Please read although it is still as clear as mud. This is a good primer and you may want to print it out and keep handy because this is complicated.
ARTSYS Pages - there are two versions minimum for each ARTSYS RTP's for UM College Park, either marked Fall 2012 or earlier. ALL students new to MC in Fall 2012 and after need to follow the Fall 2012 RTP's which outline the New General Education Program. Although it looks complicated, you can use the 2012 RTP and a copy of MC's Gen Ed List and tell students to take major-specific courses on the page AND follow MC's Gen Ed Program instead of the New Gen Ed AREA's like Scholarship in Practice (which are blank when you click on them anyway! http://cms.montgomerycollege.edu/WorkArea/linkit.aspx?LinkIdentifier=id&ItemID=47565
Also, a 3-credit HE is more transferable to UMCP Gen Ed than a 1-credit HE. With a 3-credit Health, the student needs only two more Gen Ed courses after transfer, but with a 1-cr. HE, a third Gen Ed course will be required after transfer.
1. Students who started at MC or any Maryland State college PRIOR to Fall 2012 still need to follow the older CORE RTP's - Transfer students don't have the option of choosing CORE or New Gen Ed - they have to stay on the track started.
2. If you're working with a student who has transferred to MC from a non-Maryland public school and if that student started school prior to Fall 2012 - that student must follow New Gen Ed 2012 pages. The bottom line is that only Maryland State school students (Frostburg, UMBC, etc.) who began college courses prior to Fall 2012 follow Old CORE.
3. Please use the MC gen ed sheets in conjunction with ARTSYS pages for students required to follow the new UM gen ed program. Continue to use the UM Core sheets and ARTSYS RTPS dated before fall 2012 for students who have started school before fall 2012 and have been at MC or another Maryland school. The Core sheet can be found on our MC Transfer web page at www.montgomerycollege.edu/transfer under local schools and then under University of Maryland. That is where the ladies in 215 get it to print out and put on the wall.
