MA115A & MA116A - Transfer

Please be aware that MA115A does not transfer to UMUC. That is the only public college in Maryland that won’t take the course as a math foundation. MA116A is acceptable at all of them.

To be safe, It is ALWAYS a good idea to inform students of the potential limitations at other institutions especially outside of Maryland. I always make it a point to say that these courses meet the math foundation for degrees at MC that don’t require a specific math course but may or may not satisfy the same at your transfer institution. I then give them option for MA097/MA099.

From Anne Schleicher:

UMUC will not accept MA 115A as a Foundation Math – they are in their rights to refuse as long as they “apply” the credit to another area of Gen Ed – which they really don’t seem to do.  The MD policy says that they must accept a course as Gen Ed, but not necessarily in the category that it was taken (same basis that UMBC uses to deny AN 105 as a non-lab science.)
