“Permission to Enroll” forms remove the necessity of checking for Prereq/Assessment level
If a visiting student comes in with a “Permission to Enroll”
form from another Institution, specifying ANY class (even an English or
Math class), they are automatically cleared to take that class. Either a
counselor, or Admissions, should provide the override for the student to take
the class.
When WE sign a “Permission to Enroll Elsewhere” form for a
student who wants to take a class somewhere else for transfer back here, it is
because we have established that the student has the prerequisites/assessment
levels to take the same class HERE; just so, someone at that other institution
has established that the student has met the prerequisite requirements for THAT
place’s version of the course the student wants to take HERE. SO the
assessment/prerequisite check has already been done by the time the student
shows up here with a “P to E” form. The student, and her home school,
have determined she is qualified for the target class, and we just rubber
stamp (or send her to Admissions and THEY will rubberstamp.
A NOTE IN BANNER will explain to a
Department Chair the policy that has allowed us to provide the override.
