MTAP and AP Credit and Credit Earned at Other Institutions Update
The Transfer Council has been working diligently to clarify MTAP admission policy regarding AP credit and credits earned at previous institutions with the University of Maryland. We recently received the clarification below which is good news for our students. 1. 1. AP Credit Policy: Students may use AP credits earned showing on the community college transcript to count toward the total of 30 credits needed for MTAP eligibility as long as 15 credits have been earned at Montgomery College. 2. Credits from Other Institutions Counting Toward the 30 credits for MTAP: As with the AP policy, students may use credits earned at other colleges (both in-state and out-of-state) to count toward the total of 30 credits needed for MTAP eligibility as long as the 15 credits have been earned at MC. MTAP materials do state that “all previous institutions attended and current community college transcripts will be considered to meet cumulative GPA requirements of MTAP”. During the summer UM will provide updates to their admissions website for the FAQ’s for MTAP. They will include an FAQ specifically for AP, and any other specific points that will be helpful for students. Once these updates are made, Hollin Roberts, will reach out to partner schools to inform them of the updates to the FAQ’s. If you have any questions regarding individual students please contact Hollin Roberts the UM MTAP Coordinator at hrobert1@umd.edu.
