- These codes are used as a "place holder" indicating that students have had a prior degree and thus met general education requirements. This "place holder" bears zero numeric credits so it won't be mistakenly used/advised as fulfillment of general elective requirements. Besides, because this "place holder" is not programmed to automatically distribute to curriculum requirements, we award generic foundation (FND) and distribution (DIST) credits without doing a course-by-course evaluation, unless the credits are program specific.
- As a result of this current business procedure, you will notice PD AA or PD AS - zero credits and a bunch of FND and DIST courses instead of direct equivalents in the records of students with a prior degree.
- If you have access to SHATRNS (please check with Niffer Gottwald if and/or how you do) , you'll be able to tell what transferring course a student receives credit for. Please note we sometimes group two transferring courses for an equivalent but can enter the equivalent to only one course in the group. Therefore, you may notice there are "no" equivalents for certain courses. This is especially when a science course has a separate lab section.
W are now more strictly enforcing the policy NOT to accept transfer credits from institutions that are not accredited by regional accrediting agencies recognized by CHEA.
- A few of these schools that usually come our way are TESST College of Technology, Stratford University, Everest University, ITT Technical Institute, Lincoln College of Technology, etc. If you're not sure whether a school is regionally accredited, please don't hesitate to ask Astrid, Ivy, or me.
- Should transient (non-degree) students need a prerequisite override, please advise them to send an unofficial transcript to the department chair, who will decide whether or not to approve the override. Please don't advise students to declare a major just to get their transcript evaluated to meet a prerequisite.
