Banner and AELP – Reading the SOATEST screen

Left column                                                     Placement Column
AELP English/Lang Placement                      101=AELW910
102 = AELW920
103 = AELW930
104 = AELW940

AELP Reading Placement                              101= AELR910
102 = AELR920
103 = AELR930

AELP Speech Placement                               102 = AELS910  (SP102 is AELS910)
AELP EL110 – 111                                        110 = AELS920  (EL110 is AELS920)
111 = AELS930.  This is an elective class, so the student with this placement essentially has no speaking/listening requirement.
FAUX 2=SPex/3=EN101/4=HNR/5=US Degl   If you see this line, you’ll see the number 2 in the placement column.  2 = SPex means speech exempt.  No speaking/listening requirement for this student.
  1. Remember, a C is needed to progress to the next level in most of our classes, but a D is technically passing in R930 and S920.
  2. Students frequently register for the wrong class. Why should a student with a W930 placement be in W920?  If one of your W920 students has a W930 placement and is not put in the right class, there can be problems down the road.
  3. W940 professors:  If you have students in your class who have an AELS910 placement and they have not completed that class, they cannot be in W940.  In the college catalog, W940 has AELS 920 as a pre-requisite or co-requisite.  AELS920 must either be taken at the same time as W940, or completed before W940.
  4. Keep an eye out for students who are repeating your class so that you can offer them support and guidance.  Third timers need an override from Counseling to register, and fourth attempt students need an appeal.  Students who are repeating classes may be advancing in one track but not in another.  For example, a student takes W910 and R920.  Passes R920, fails W910.  The next semester the student will be registering for R930 and W910.  There’s nothing in the catalog that says students can’t take classes two levels apart, BUT they should be counseled that it’s Very Strongly Recommended to complete the lower level class first.  If a student is trying to take W940 but hasn’t passed R920, they’re likely to have a hard time.
