Important Updates to Policies and Procedures - Clarifications

A couple of points of clarification (I hopeJ)….  PLEASE DO NOT REPLY ALL

1)      Are we considered designee for students who want a third attempt? For example, if a student has not been here for 5 years and comes back and we wish to test them again.
a.       Yes, Counselors are considered designees for third attempts, if the student’s test scores are in question (no longer valid, e.g. 1 year for Math, 2 yrs. for English/Read) or completion of documented intervention.

2)      The 48 hour rule to retest is arbitrary and there needs to be some clause or understanding that certain situations require less time. (Even if that clause is an understanding between us and the assessment centers). If no such clause or understanding is worked out, do we send complainers to the Dean?
a.       The Collegewide assessment center staff, under leadership of Jamin Bartolomeo and Guillermo Laya  will work with counselors to waive the 48hr policy for special circumstances as defined by the COUNSELOR

3)      The Redesigned SAT college ready scores are interim scores to be used until the Maryland Association of Community College (MACC)  presidents approve college ready scores.
a.       Statewide approval won't happen until, AT LEAST, next summer (Summer 2017).  A statewide group is being convened  to look at all of the college ready measures - SAT, ACT, PARCC, Accuplacer - and identify or recertify college ready scores. Thus the Redesigned SAT Math Score of 530  and Reading of 27, (based on the College Board concordance tables) are currently in use.  The intention is to be prepared for students, who might show up with redesigned SAT scores and not make them take another test if their scores were high enough.  Once there are MACC approved scores the P & P will be updated.

4)      Pre Redesigned SAT Scores
a.       Remain at 500 Critical Reading and Math

All are currently in use.  Let me know if you have any questions or if I have left something out.

In a good way,
