MTAP Transfer Advising Notes

Advising Students about MTAP

Enrollment in MTAP, the Maryland Transfer Advantage Program, is going on now through the closing date of Nov. 15th.  The form this year is simpler – students do not have to create an account in the APPLY system.  You can see the MTAP application at this link:  www.admissions.umd.edu/apply/mtap.php   You can also print out a ½ page information flier for MTAP (attached).

Answers to questions you may hear:

UMCP accepts MTAP forms from students who are in the very first semester here at MC, so students can list “0” credits earned and a GPA of “0” – that is fine.

Students enrolling now who want to take a course this coming Spring 2017 can first submit the MTAP form and then complete a Course Interest Survey (CIS) form to register for a course. The CIS form can be scanned and e-mailed to MTAP Coordinator Ashley Johnson, ashjjohn@umd.edu – please alert Ashley to the fact that the student has just enrolled in MTAP so that she can process the MTAP enrollment form sooner than Nov. 15th if needed.

a.     On the CIS form, if a student wants to take CMSC 131 Intro to Object Oriented Programming, MC counselors & advisors need to verify that the prerequisite has been met (pre- or concurrent enrollment in MATH 181 Calculus I) and verify the GPA here at MC, but for any course requiring Dept. Permission, the Department Permission section should be left blank - is filled out by UM after the CIS form has been submitted:

The following information on MTAP is published in the MC Transfer Times http://mctransfertimes.blogspot.com/ – PLEASE read it through to become familiar with all aspects of the program, including possible courses to take through MTAP and ESPECIALLY the COST of taking a course through MTAP (as the course is not covered by Financial Aid)
