MTAP is open now and will closed on
June 1. Please send out to your colleagues on your campus.
FYI
– the earliest a current MC student could start at UMD using MTAP would be
SP2021 – and that is only if on Aug 1st when they apply to UMD they
have met all the conditions, including 30 credits on the transcript, not in
progress. ( As well as 3.0 GPA, ENGL102, MATH FND).

When you enroll in MTAP by June 1st, you will receive a “Welcome to MTAP” e-mail in late June/early July.
·
Who should
apply? Anyone who wants to transfer to UMCP in Spring
2021 or after.
·
What is
the MTAP Guarantee of Admission? Students
who complete 30 or more transferable credits which must include ENGL102 and a College-level math, along with a 3.0 overall GPA, are guaranteed admission to non-LEP
majors, but you MUST
apply for transfer
admission by the Priority Transfer
Application Deadline of March
1 for a Fall transfer or August 1 for a Spring transfer. See details on the back
of this page & on the MTAP site: www.admissions.umd.edu/apply/mtap.php
·
What is the Course Benefit of MTAP? You may take one course per semester
at a reduced price at UM during
the summer while you’re still enrolled at MC. Taking a class
at UM is OPTIONAL, but it may help you stay on track for a major
like Engineering.
·
Does MTAP guarantee admission
to LEP's [Limited
Enrollment Programs = competitive majors
such as Business,
Engineering, Biological Sciences, etc]? See all 14 LEP majors
here: www.lep.umd.edu . MTAP does not guarantee admission to LEP’s,
but MC recommends that you apply to MTAP to keep admission possibilities
open. Some LEP’s admit you AFTER you are
accepted by UM, so applying to MTAP will help you first get admitted to the University
in general.
·
What if I don't have all 30 credits finished &
showing on my transcript when I apply to transfer by the August 1 Priority Deadline for
Spring 2021? If you have less than 30
college credits showing as completed on your transcript when you apply, you will
need to send a high school transcript & SAT/ACT scores to UM by the Priority Deadline to make your application
complete. If you apply by August 1 and
have classes in progress in the Fall to reach the minimum total of 30 credits, you
are not guaranteed admission through MTAP, but UMCP may hold your MTAP transfer
application aside & admit you on a space-available basis after you send a
second transcript showing Fall grades
at the end of the semester. The only true MTAP guarantee of admission applies
to students who have all 30 qualifying
credits showing as completed on their college transcript submitting a Transfer
Application by a Priority Deadline of March 1 (Fall) or August 1 (Spring).
·
Are MTAP students better off
transferring prior to
completing 60 credits at MC? No! Although
you may apply and transfer @ 30 credits, students
in competitive majors
like Business or Engineering often choose to stay and get strong
grades in 60 credits at MC.
UMCP does not give preference to students who have transferred earlier for
competitive majors - admission into LEP majors is based mainly on grades,
whether earned at UM or MC. A few majors at UM (ex. some types of Engineering
or Animal Science) may require transferring
prior to finishing
60 credits - work with an adviser
to determine if this applies
to you.
·
Do AP/IB or CLEP credits
count toward the 30 credits needed for MTAP? *AP/IB credits
can be used to satisfy the Fundamental English & Math courses required for
MTAP, however they will not count
towards the overall 30 college credit hours required to complete MTAP or
apply for transfer admissions to the University of Maryland.
·
What if I earned credits at
another college before coming to MC? Students may enroll in MTAP, but they must earn at
least 15 credits at Montgomery College and have an overall
combined GPA of a 3.0 from all colleges attended for MTAP qualifications.
·
What if I want to transfer AFTER
Spring 2021? Enroll now anyway – once you
have been accepted into MTAP, your membership continues until any future
semester that you decide to transfer.
·
What about Shady Grove? The Terp
Transfer Program (TTP) has similar benefits. Majors in TTP are Biology,
Business, Communication, Criminal Justice, Public Health Science and Information Science. Search
“TTP” on the umd.edu
site.
Who can answer other questions about
transferring to UM? UM has a Pre-Transfer Advisor
based at Montgomery College. Meet the UM Transfer
Advisor, Leslie Lindeman, by asking for a Starfish appointment referral from any
MC Counselor or Adviser or contact her directly by e-mail LLINDEMA@umd.edu
