This page includes important
plans for students transferring to UM in the following majors – here’s the list
with some “Did you know?” notes…
·
Animal Science –
MC has very few courses beyond basic sciences, students may need to plan to
transfer before 60 credits…
·
Art – All Concentrations including Graphic Design –
students planning to transfer to major in Graphic Design should follow this
page based on General Studies HACL for transfer; the MC Graphic
Design AFA or AAS degrees are useful for direct entry to employment but will
not transfer in their entirety to UM and are missing some General Education
Program courses needed for transfer, this Advising Page also includes notes on
the Global Engagement (language) requirement.
·
Criminal Justice BS -
students headed to either Shady Grove OR Main Campus can finish the two
required STAT courses for UM @ MC prior to transfer: both MATH 117 and BSAD 210
[MATH 117 = STAT 100 and BSAD 210 fulfills UM’s upper level STAT for
Criminology majors]
·
Dietetics/Food Science/Nutritional Sci. Majors Each of these majors has a slightly different career
path, but the courses needed in the first two years are the same for all three.
·
Hearing and Speech – another major that
has very few prerequisite courses at MC, an early transfer may be needed.
·
Kinesiology (Exercise Science) – provides important notes about Lab Sciences if students
are interested in applying to Physical Therapy schools after finishing a
Bachelor’s degree.
·
Psychology BA and BS - Did you
know? UM only wants 3 specific PSYC’s after PSYC 102 at MC… these fit the
three Psych Themes shown on this page; also provides advising notes if students
are hoping to use this major for pre-med.
·
Public Health BS based on General Studies-STEM – includes advising notes regarding CHEM if students are
hoping to use this major for pre-med or pre-physician assistant programs.
And speaking of Pre-Med, the
Transfer Resources page also includes versions of Pre-Med/Pre-Dent and other
Pre-Advising Pages:
The Transfer Resources for
Counselors Page also includes other general transfer advising pages,
including this one for
• Cybersecurity & Related Majors – students planning to transfer in this major need to
be very careful about picking the right courses especially for transfer to UM
or UMBC.
